Block Busters: The Longest Ride Is Not Just Another Nicholas Sparks Movie

Just like every other Nicholas Sparks movie, The Longest Ride stars a pretty girl and an even hotter guy.

Luke Collins, played by Scott Eastwood, is a twenty-something-year-old professional bull rider who falls for sorority girl Sophia Danko, played by Britt Robertson. Given the author, it’s no surprise that their relationship is strained but their love prevails in the end.

This movie focuses not only on Luke’s and Sophia’s romance, but also on the relationship between Ira and Ruth, an elderly couple whose love is an inspiration to the audience.

Also as expected of a Nicholas Sparks movie, many of the audience members left the theater a little misty-eyed. Clocking in at over two hours, the tear-jerking film was definitely not easy to sit through.

Although predictable, the storyline was sweet and had just the right amount of flashbacks. It connected the tales of two love stories from two generations through common themes of sacrifice and love. The transitions between the two stories could have been improved, but the film was still enjoyable overall.

Now to the ultimate question: Is this another stereotypical Nicholas Sparks movie? The answer is yes and no.

The movie’s plot was unique and kept us interested, but it was still somewhat cheesy and predictable.
