In an email to Newton teachers and faculty, Newton Teachers Association president Michael Zilles announced that the Teachers Association and School Committee have reached “a tentative agreement on” new teacher contracts.

The Newton Teachers Association and School Committee had been deliberating over the provisions of the contract beginning in the 2014 school year. The two sides had been making slow progress as they debated the Teachers Association’s request for an increase in wages to match those in the surrounding school districts. http://nshsdenebola.com/newton-teachers-working-without-a-teacher-contract/

After planned “unity action,” including wearing bright yellow Newton Teachers Association T-Shirts sporting the motto, “EXCELLENT SCHOOLS = COMPETITIVE WAGES,” and a march to city hall in April to attend the contract negotiations in full force, the Teachers Association is eager to vote on the contract on September 2 in the Field House.

“We did better at the bargaining table because of all the work you did last year,” Zilles said in his email to the Teachers Association.

The provisions of the contract have not been released to the public.
