“Better three hours too soon than a minute too late!”

Director Paige Perkinson abides by this timeless Bard quote by announcing the start of the 33rd annual Newton North/Newton South Shakespeare cooperative.

This time-honored tradition is one of the most long-lasting after school programs offered at South. This year, Perkinson, with the help of students and faculty from both high schools, will bring to life the ageless classic Romeo and Juliet.

The play will be set in the traditional Renaissance period, with a splash of modernity. Theatre Ink, Newton North’s teaching and working theater, will host the production.

Cast size will depend on the audition pool, but all those interested in auditioning can pick up a form at the Call Board. Auditions, which can be booked online at southstage.org, will be held the week of Feb. 8.

Those interested in a tech position may contact Bryant Cyr, South Stage’s technical director.

“The students and I put so much work and love into creating this piece of theater,” Perkinson said. “We really want to share it with as many people as possible.”
