This Coming Week

Wednesday 4/6: At 7:00 pm the “Spring Sing” concert is taking place at South in the auditorium. During the concert, Vocal Ensemble, Newton South Chorale, Madrigals, and Festival Singers (the honors chorus who specializes in popular music) will be performing for parents and friends.

Wednesday 4/6: Also at 7:00 pm, there is going to be a jazz concert at North. Both the North and South jazz groups will be performing as a fundraiser for their upcoming trip to New Orleans. This trip, which will be over April break, is an opportunity for these musicians to not only learn more about the history of jazz, but also to perform with professionals in live settings.

This Past Week

Sunday 4/3: The Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble performed at MICCA in Lexington. The group won silver, which, while certainly impressive, is a step down the gold medal they received the year before.

Friday 4/1: The Madrigals and Orchestra performed at their respective MICCA festivals in Norwood and Lexington. Both groups received silver medals for their performances.

Tuesday-Thursday 3/29-3/31: The “Say What?” speech showcase performance took place in the lecture hall at South. Over the course of three days, numerous outstanding performances and speeches were performed for friends, family, and prospective team members. With performances from Kay Thompson’s Eloise (performed by freshman Kiran Maypole) to Charlotte Perkins Gilman’s The Yellow Wallpaper (performed by junior Lily Borak) and speeches on choosing between opposites (performed by senior Shira Abramovich), there was something for everyone. Overall, the night was filled with beautifully crafted pieces spoken with passion, which provided great entertainment for the audience.
