As Winter sports reach the halfway mark, Newton South teams are looking to make a postseason push.

The boys’ basketball team had a successful week beating Bedford 49-48, on Tuesday, and dominating Acton-Boxborough 63-41, on Friday. They now sit at 8-5 on the season and look to continue their four-game win streak against Boston Latin, on Tuesday.

The girls’ basketball team topped Acton-Boxborough 57-39, on Friday, led by juniors Veronica Burton and Paige Ollivierre, who had 16 and 13 points respectively. The Lions now sit at 10-3 on the season and look to beat Boston Latin, on Tuesday.

The swim and dive program faced Cambridge, on Wednesday, on the team’s senior night. The boys and girls teams won 95-49 and 101-83, respectively. The program has the Dual County Meet next week to cap off their regular season.

The boys’ hockey team had a great week going 2-0. On Wednesday, the team beat the returning DCL Champion Cambridge Rindge and Latin Falcons; thanks to a go-ahead goal from junior Andrew Pratt with under a minute left in the game. The team later beat Dracut 7-3, to improve their record to 8-4-1. The Lions are set to face Lowell, on Wednesday.

The alpine ski team had a race on Friday. The team was led by junior Chace Khan for the boys team and freshman Maddie Bray for the girls team. The team has another race on Tuesday.

The girls’ track team had a very successful meet at the Coaches Invitational Meet. Freshman, Lucy Jenks won the 1000 meter. Junior, Caroline Barry and senior, Katie Collins placed first and second in the mile respectively, while senior Calene Lazare won the 55-meter dash.

Super Bowl LI is officially one week away. The New England Patriots led by, future Hall of Famer, Tom Brady will face the Atlanta Falcons and their high-powered offense.
