As the first snowfall blankets the ground, a new winter sports season is upon us.
The boys’ basketball team opened up their season with a 66-65 overtime win against DCL foe Acton-Boxborough. Senior Oscar Coulter tied the game up with 3.9 seconds left in overtime on a turnaround jumper. In overtime, junior Robbie Hodin hit two big threes to gain South’s first win of the season. The Lions’ travel to Weston this Tuesday before hosting Needham this Friday.
The girls’ basketball team also beat Acton-Boxborough 55-35 to start their season. The Lions’ defense was suffocating as they held to the Colonials to only 35 points the whole game. South hosts Weston this Friday, looking to improve their record to 2-0.
The boys’ hockey team went 1-1-1 this past week. The Lions’ tied Wayland 4-4, then beat Dracut 3-1 before falling to the reigning DCL champs in Cambridge 5-0.
The girls’ and boys’ swim and dive team suffered difficult losses to the talented Westford Academy team by the scores of 95-80 and 93-88 respectively. South looks to even their record at 1-1 with their meet this Tuesday against Concord-Carlisle.
The wrestling team fell to Wayland on Wednesday in a tough match at home. They look to rebound against Framingham on Tuesday.
The indoor track season kicked off this past Friday against Acton-Boxborough with a 60-40 win for the girls’ team. The boys’ team fell 60-40.
