As the first snowfall blankets the ground, a new winter sports season is upon us.

The boys’ basketball team opened up their season with a 66-65 overtime win against DCL foe Acton-Boxborough. Senior Oscar Coulter tied the game up with 3.9 seconds left in overtime on a turnaround jumper. In overtime, junior Robbie Hodin hit two big threes to gain South’s first win of the season. The Lions’ travel to Weston this Tuesday before hosting Needham this Friday.

The girls’ basketball team also beat Acton-Boxborough 55-35 to start their season. The Lions’ defense was suffocating as they held to the Colonials to only 35 points the whole game. South hosts Weston this Friday, looking to improve their record to 2-0.

The wrestling team fell to Wayland on Wednesday in a tough match at home. They look to rebound against Framingham on Tuesday.

The indoor track season kicked off this past Friday against Acton-Boxborough with a 60-40 win for the girls’ team. The boys’ team fell 60-40.
