As students began to settle back into the routine of going to school, Newton South sports also began to settle back into their winning ways.
Boys’ soccer went 3-0 this week, dropping formidable opponents in Cambridge, Acton-Boxborough, and Natick. After losing their first game of the season, the boys have been unbeaten in their last seven games.
They will face a huge test at home on Tuesday when they take on Concord-Carlisle under the lights at 6:30. Come out and support your lions!
Girls’ soccer also enjoyed a successful weekend, beating Cambridge at home with ease and then narrowly defeating Acton-Boxborough 2-1 on the road on Friday in what might turn out to be a decisive win in their season.
The girls travel to Concord-Carlisle on Tuesday in another tough match up before taking on Bedford at home under the lights on Saturday.
Boys’ Cross Country got their first win of the season in a rout of Wayland and Waltham, behind stellar performances from senior captain Gal Fudim and sophomore Shaw Miller.
Girls’ Cross Country earned a milestone win as well in Coach McChesney’s 1000th Dual meet win. Even resting some of their top runners, they disposed of Wayland and Waltham with ease.
After a week of rest, both teams travel to Westford on Wednesday!
Football also earned its first win of the season this week, defeating Boston-Latin 35 to 18 at home, moving to 3-1. Their next game is Saturday at home against Cambridge-Rindge and Latin under the lights.
The girls’ volleyball team now sits at 7-1 after defeating Boston Latin 3-0 and previously undefeated Acton-Boxborough. They are scheduled to play Cambridge-Rindge and Latin and Bedford next week.
The field hockey team went 1-2 this week after beating Ursuline Academy and falling to Acton-Boxborough and Framingham. They look to beat Waltham and Concord-Carlisle this week.
After matches being cancelled due to poor weather, the golf team crushed Wayland 92-62 last week. The Lions also came in second in a tri match against Bedford and Acton-Boxborough. They are set to play Concord-Carlisle and Westford Academy.
In professional sports, the Patriots continued their winning ways, beating the Texans 27-0 behind rookie, third string quarterback Jacoby Brissett and two touchdowns from LeGarrette Blount. Their next opponent is the Bills on Sunday.
The Red Sox clinched a playoff spot and earned their 92nd win this week as they prepare for the playoffs with their eleven game win streak. Boston currently has a 5.5 game lead in the AL East.
