As the leaves turn colors and weather gets colder, Newton South sports are in full swing.

The boys’ and girls’ cross country teams are looking forward and preparing for the upcoming Dual County meet this Friday.

The boys’ soccer team fell to Cambridge 3-2 and Lincoln-Sudbury 3-0. However with their 0-0 draw against Brookline this past Saturday, the Lions are one point away from states with three matches remaining against Acton-Boxborough, Newton North, and Concord-Carlisle.

The girls’ soccer team had a huge 1-0 over Lincoln-Sudbury on Tuesday behind great goalkeeping by senior Sydney Greene and a goal from sophomore Audrey Lavey. The Lions also roared past Cambridge with a win. The team looks to beat AB tomorrow on senior day to clinch the DCL crown.

South football had a tough 33-6 loss to Waltham this past weekend. The team looks to rebound against Lowell High School on Saturday.

The girls’ volleyball team fell to DCL rival Lincoln-Sudbury 3-0 despite a long, hard fought match which included a marathon 30-32 set. The team looks to beat Cambridge on senior night on Tuesday.

The field hockey team had a brilliant 1-0 win over Dedham behind great defense on Friday.

Outside of Newton, the Patriots had a strong 27-16 win over the Steelers on Sunday improving to 6-1 on the year.

And the World Series between the Cleveland Indians and Chicago Cubs looks to kick off this Tuesday. Corey Kluber will be pitching for the Indians while Jon Lester will be on the hill for the Cubs.
