This Saturday, September 29, the girls’ soccer team will play against Brockton in their annual under the lights game.
Heading into the game, the Lions have a record of 5-0, with a goal differential of +28 (29 goals scored versus one goal conceded). Although their performance can only be described as dominant, and their opponent in Saturday’s game as historically easy, they have no desire to slow down or take it easy.
“Although Brockton has not posed a serious threat in the past, really any team has the potential to derail our season. That being said, this is just as important as any other game in our season and we need to take it seriously,” senior captain Audrey Lavey said.
With this game representing the cap off to South’s first spirit week of the year, the team looks forward to a good turnout of support from the school. Senior captain Willa Frantzis noted that “The crowd is a huge part of the under the lights experience. When the crowd is loud and rowdy, we get pumped up and definitely helps our performance. The fans are what really create the under the lights experience.” Fellow captain Maia Madison added that “Playing under the lights is an energizing experience. It’s incredibly energizing and encouraging to have your peers cheer you on.”
With the team’s incredibly strong performance thus far and lofty goals heading into the latter half of the season, this Saturday’s game will be yet a stepping stone towards their ultimate target, one that the whole school can help the team to reach. With that in mind, get out there and support the team this Saturday at 7:00. Go Lions!
