Many high school juniors took the SATs on March 13th. Unfortunately, the majority of Massachusetts’ test centers were shut down due to COVID-19 complications. If a student’s test center was closed, their registration was canceled and they were refunded.
Of the 55 test centers in Massachusetts, 16 sent their students elsewhere. Some high school students had to travel to a different state, such as Rhode Island or New York, to take the SAT. Frustratingly for students, test centers have closed or made changes on short notice, including on the test day or a few hours before the test. For example, Covenant Catholic High School announced the closure of its testing center late on the evening of December 4th, just hours before the administration of the test. This left many students, who had been studying for the exam for months, angry and disappointed.
Here are some test centers that sent students to a different school on the March 13th SAT date:
- Catholic Memorial High School sent their test takers to Waltham Senior High School
- Doherty Memorial High School, Everett High School, and Needham High School sent their test takers to Brookline High School
- East Boston High School sent their test takers to Boston College High School
- Pittsfield High School sent their test takers to the Emma Willard School in Troy, New York
- Uxbridge High School sent their test takers to Cumberland High School in Cumberland, Rhode Island
In all, test center closures and location changes have added stress to an already nerve-racking testing process.
