Prom is one of the most highly anticipated high school events as it is a culmination of all the students’ hard work. It is a time to reflect on the previous 12 years of primary and secondary school with both joy and tears.
Held at the Fairmont Copley Plaza, Newton South’s prom kicked off with beautifully decorated tables with flowers and salads awaiting consumption. As people were walking in and making their way to their friend groups huddled around certain tables, there was a melting pot of emotions in the air. While students were excited for their future and continued education, leaving a community that they have been a part of for the majority of their lives is also nerve-wracking.
With that being said, salad plates were soon cleared quickly followed by a main course which consisted of roasted chicken on a bed of mashed potatoes. For dessert, each guest enjoyed a slice of rich chocolate cake.
Soon after food service was completed and bellies were stuffed, nobody hesitated to head to the dance floor where the DJ was playing tunes from all decades. He played songs like “Can’t Hold Us” by Macklemore all the way to “Dancing Queen” by Abba.
As the night progressed and the dance floor kept on getting hotter (literally), people started to split their time between the water/lemonade station and the dancefloor while all who were wearing tuxedos began to abandon their blazers.
The night ended with “Graduation” by Juice WRLD & Benny Blanco and the looming thought of graduation really started to set in.
Newton South’s 2023 prom was a huge success in many ways and truly expressed the spirit of our graduating class of 2023.
