As the tennis season kicks off, players are gearing up for the challenges ahead, both on and off the court. Rheana Samhoun, a junior on varsity, shared the team’s expectations, goals, and mindset with Denebola as the new season begins.
Samhoun has been playing tennis for 6 years and is entering this season as a doubles player. For the last two seasons, the team has made the final four, and the players are eager to build on that momentum.
When asked how she was feeling going into this season, Samhoun said, “I’m hopeful that we will win the championship because Wellesley’s top two players are not playing this season.” Her optimism is matched by a clear focus on personal growth, “My goals this year are to win most of my matches and to overall have a more positive mindset.”
Team chemistry appears to be one of their strongest assets. Samhoun said, “We have very good chemistry, especially for doubles, and a nice team spirit. We always have a way to bounce back even when we are down.” Practice has been competitive, as the team works to finalize lineups and push each other to improve. “We are still figuring out the lineup and it is very competitive,” she noted.
Looking ahead, Samhoun is particularly excited for the postseason. “I am looking forward to the beginning of the playoffs because it is when it starts to get warm and we get to play and see how far we go,” she said.
It is clear that Samhoun is focused on growth, teamwork, and giving her absolute best on the court. The energy around the team is high, and everyone seems ready to take on the season’s challenges with determination.
With dedication and a positive mindset, Samhoun and the rest of the team are stepping into the season with confidence. While the matches have only just begun, the team already has a huge drive to succeed.
