2018 is coming to a close, and it’s time to look back on what I feel to be the 40 best songs of the year. It’s inevitable that a year-end list is going to be subjective to personal music taste, but since singles are works that are such defining cultural moments, especially in this electronic age, I tried to make this with personal regard as well as commercial.
P.S. Lists like these are often written by people who try to separate themselves from everyday music consumers, in an attempt to heighten their “music ego.” That’s not the case here. The truth is, I don’t know a whole lot more about music than you do. I just listen to music and (think) I know what sounds are cool. All 40 of these songs made cool sounds to my ear.
P.P.S. It was too hard for me to make one culminated list of 25 songs, so I made segregated lists of the 4 most popular genres in music right now, 10 songs in each genre. The lists consist of pop, hip/hop, rock, and country music.
P.P.P.S. I didn’t write a description for the 40 songs because this was written on a Sunday of a Patriots game, and the game is kind of important for seeding, so I don’t want to miss it.
