The girls’ basketball team lost its home opener to Needham 50-38 tonight.
The Lions started the game strong, ending the first quarter tied 6-6.
“We definitely played with a lot of energy,” freshman Emily Chang said.
Chang scored 13 points, including three 3-pointers, which helped keep the Lions in the game.
Needham quickly pulled ahead in the second quarter, finishing the first half with a 26-13 advantage.
Senior captain Kayla Burton, junior Jessa Rubera, and Chang scored most of the Lions’ points.
“I think we underestimated the other team and we didn’t play as hard as we should have,” said Chang. “All the things we worked on and said we would do in games didn’t happen today and I just think we need to make a few more adjustments as a team and communicate.”
Coach Sam Doner felt that the team did not execute their plan of boxing out and and making good decisions.
“I don’t want them feeling like they are better than they are,” said Doner. “We have a little bit of work to do, but we will get there.”
