As Denebola continues to speak with twins about their experience at South, sophomores Natalie and Carmen Boll agreed to sit down with Denebola and talk about the upsides and downsides of being a twin.
What is your favorite thing about being a twin?
Carmen: “I like that there’s someone that is going through the exact same thing as me, and I know everything about them. It’s kind of like a built-in bestie.”
Natalie: “Yeah, and we also have the same friends, and we always know everything going on in each other’s lives. It makes a lot of things easier”
Is there anything bad about being a twin?
Carmen: “I don’t like when people think of us as one person, like as just the Boll twins instead of Natalie and Carmen.”
Natalie: “I agree. Sometimes we’re thought of as one unit instead of two individual people which can be hard.”
What’s your biggest similarity and what’s your biggest difference?
Carmen: “We have a really different taste in food, so some of the things Natalie loves I hate and vice versa.”
Natalie: “I guess for similarities we have the same… ‘smartness’, we play the same sports, and we have the same friends.”
Carmen: “Also our personalities are kind of different. Except for the fact that we’re both outgoing. I’d say there are other aspects that vary between us.”
Do you plan to stick together after high school, and possibly go to the same college?
Carmen: “Oh no! Definitely not.”
Natalie: “No, I need to get away from her!”
Carmen: “Of course we’ll text everyday, but I do not want to go to the same college because-”
Natalie: “It’ll be good to be known as just Natalie… And we can trick people into thinking we don’t have a twin.”
Do you have any funny twin moments or stories?
Carmen: “When we were younger we would trick out family into thinking we had twin powers, so we would have a series of numbers– remember Natalie?”
Natalie: “Yes Carmen.”
Carmen: “Natalie you tell the story.”
Natalie: “No, you tell it.”
Carmen: “Fine, so we would take our favorite numbers and put them in a certain order. Then every time we were out to dinner with our family we would be like ‘On the count of three let’s say a random number’, then we’d both say ‘Thirteen!’ and they would think it’s real.”
Do you have anything else to add?
Natalie: “I’m good.”
Carmen: “I think with twins there’s some advantages and disadvantages, like it’s fun to have a really close sister who just happens to be your age, but it can get really frustrating when everything is being compared to someone else.”
Natalie: “It’s also weird to share the exact life with someone, but for the most part I like it.”
