Sophomore Will LaCamera is a starting attackman for the boys’ varsity lacrosse team here at Newton South. As a freshman, he got pulled up to start on the varsity team and has been proving his dominance on the field since. LaCamera hopes to pave a way to becoming a captain his senior year, and he keeps proving why he is South’s number one goal scorer by showcasing his skills on and off the field.

How did you feel when you started for the varsity lacrosse team as a freshman last year?
“It was definitely a really big milestone and accomplishment for me to get called up to Varsity last year and for me to start on top of that. It was something I worked on for a really long time, and it was really satisfying.”

Do you see yourself being captain senior year and why?
“I would like to become captain my senior year, and I think I would make a good captain because I’m a good leader and I like to think I make a good example on the field.”

How many goals do you have this season and how many do you want to have by the end?
“I have seven goals this year, and I’d hope to have twenty-five or above by the end of the season.”

Do you find the upperclassmen intimidating to you at times?
“I wouldn’t say I find the upperclassmen on the Newton South team intimidating, but when you’re facing these really good lacrosse teams, you get these really big defensemen who can be a little scary.”

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced athletically?
“The biggest challenge I faced athletically is me being a little undersized for a varsity sport, so I have to rely more on my skills, my lacrosse IQ, and my athleticism.”

Do you plan to play lacrosse in college?
“If the opportunity presents itself, I would love to play in college, but as of now, I’m just focusing on my high school career.”

When you’re upset about a game what do you think about to boost your mood?
“When I’m all up in my feels, I usually think about any time I have had success on the field, and that usually picks me up.”
