Math Team Finishes in Third Place in Regional Competition

On May 5, Newton South Math Team competed at the season’s final meet, the New England Association of Mathematics League Regional Competition, and took home a third place award in the large school division.

South’s math team’s has a reputation of success, and this victory serves as a rightful conclusion to the team’s overall strong season.

South Debate Team Wins States

Newton South debate team continued its success at the State Qualifiers tournament with senior Kayla Chang and junior Gil Alon’s first place win.

The South debate team remains one of the top teams in Massachusetts having received awards in local and national circuits over the years including last year’s first place finish at Columbia.

FBLA Opens South’s First School Store

Newton South’s Future Business Leaders of America started South’s first school store in order to promote business opportunities as well as contributing donations to school clubs and charities.

The store, located next to the faculty dining room, sells items ranging from gum to composition notebooks and remains the culmination of plans created by seniors Hannah Phan and Benjamin Anderson-Krin.

AWARE Day Highlights the Stigma Against Mental Illnesses

The AWARE club held the annual AWARE day highlighting the complexities of mental illnesses through personal narratives by South students as well as outside presenters.

The AWARE club works to educate students and spread awareness to de-stigmatize the topic of mental health at South.
