After finishing the season with a stellar 17-2 record, the boys’ volleyball team earned the #2 seed in the MIAA South Section and will take on #7 seed Brockton High School on Wednesday night at 6:30 pm at Newton South’s field house. Denebola got a chance to sit down with co-captain Krish Maypole and ask him a few questions as the team prepares for the match:

Is the team happy with your playoff seeding?
“We’re definitely happy to be seeded second in the South section. We’ve worked really hard to get here and to have home court advantage until the sectional final is something we think is really fun and important to have.”

How are you preparing to play Brockton, a team you don’t usually play?
“We’re going into practice every day with the mentality that we can beat anyone in the state if we work hard, stay focused, and play our game.”

What are going to be the keys to success in the match?
“The keys for success in the upcoming match will be to serve and pass well.”

What is the team’s goal for the playoffs?
“Our goal is definitely to win a state championship.”

Since you have been to the State tournament before, how do you think that this year’s tournament going to be different from the last ones?
“I think that the biggest difference between this year, with a senior-heavy team, and last year, with a younger team, is the comfort that we’ll feel playing under pressure. We’ve been to the playoffs and had the chance to be on the court. I think there was an element of nervousness in last year’s games that we won’t have as much of this year.”
