Girls Soccer Defeats Concord Carlisle, Boston Latin

In a close game, the girls’ soccer team pulled through last Wednesday, taking home a  1-0 win against Concord Carlisle.

In a dead even first half, both teams made attempts to score but neither followed through. South stayed on its toes and managed to keep its guard up in order to stay focused and not let CC get ahead.

“I’m really proud of the way everyone played,” senior captain Alekhya Chaparala said. “There was a tremendous effort on the field and a determination not to give up.”

Going into the second half, it seemed as if the score would remain even for the duration of the game. But, ultimately, it all came down to South’s conditioning. The team proved itself by keeping the intensity up and playing safe throughout the second half.

Off of a corner kick taken by senior Sophie McArthur, sophomore Lizzie Walks scored the first and only goal of the game with only 15 minutes left.

Junior Katherine Cullen led many attempts to score in the second half, while juniors Tamar Bulka and Elizabeth Barry played stellar defense.

“We were really tenacious, especially in the second half, and kept the level of playing up, and eventually we were able to score,” Chaparala said. “From there it was a matter of will and not letting them get back in the game.”

South’s record is now 4-3-1.

Today, though, its skill fell short against Boston Latin, where South lost 5-0, bringing its record to 7-3-1.The Lions play against Lincoln-Sudbury this Thursday, October 10.
