Amidst Russia’s devastating invasion, multiple countries have begun sending humanitarian aid to Ukraine. Aside from the United States, France, the European Union, the Netherlands, and many other countries’ arm donations, many nations have sent humanitarian relief to Ukraine. While some countries have not disclosed their donation status, here is what we know:
Switzerland: After breaking their long-held neutrality, Switzerland has sent over 86 million dollars of relief to Ukraine. While around 2,000 Ukrainians have sought refuge in Switzerland, the Swiss justice minister reports that they expect this figure to rise and that Switzerland could take in between 50,000 to 60,000 refugees.
Australia: The Australian Prime Minister, Scott Morrison, has allocated 35 million dollars to provide relief to Ukraine. Additionally, Morrison has announced that Australia has given out over 4,000 visas over the past four weeks in light of the invasion.
China: China recently said that they will send over 1.57 million dollars of humanitarian aid to Ukraine, doubling the budget that they announced in early March.
United States: The United States reports sending over 405 million cumulative dollars to Ukraine since the 2014 annexation of Crimea. Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, reports that the money has gone towards setting up healthcare facilities, safe drinking water, food for those in need, and shelter.
United Kingdom: The United Kingdom announces that it has sent over 3.7 million medical supply items and 1.5 doses of medicine, including masks, ventilators, painkillers, needles, and wound care packages. The government’s website remarks that it plans to continue sending any necessary supplies.
Egypt: The Egyptian Red Crescent has set up relief service centers, with the support of Romania, along its borders. The centers give citizens access to psychological care, first aid, communication support to locate family members, meals, transportation to airports, and more.
France: France has given a 110 million dollar financial package to Ukraine. The package includes family tents, blankets, hygiene products, sleeping bags, and dozens of containers of medication.
Romania: While Romania has not specified a discrete amount of money towards donations, the Romanian Red Cross has reportedly set up tents on the border areas with tea, coffee, hygiene kits, medical professionals, blankets, baby products, and medicines.
