What is Humans of Newton South? Modeled after Humans of New York, a hugely popular photoblog created in 2010 by photographer Brandon Stanton, Humans of Newton South is a chance to capture the untold stories of students and faculty of South. Every week, Features has started the initiative to showcase an individual to explore their ‘behind the scenes’ life to see the real people that make up the student body.
“I am someone that really values music in my life. I am always listening to music because if I can’t have music, I can’t stay sane. I just need it to exist, and as a product of that, I’m listening for music that is not as much for my enjoyment, but for my I guess spirituality. I want to listen to something that is going to give me a deeper understanding of my existence and not everyone is okay with that because they listen to music that is more basic. Some people just can’t understand why I’m listening to something that’s a little more avant-garde or off the radar, but it’s just something I truly enjoy. I think my passion for music started when I wanted to learn to play guitar and that started in eighth grade. Before, I had played the cello for a while because that was one of the instruments you were given the option to play in school, but I was more interested in guitar. I just really look up to a lot of people who play guitar: Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles, Bruce Springsteen. They’re all great musicians and people in my life who I look up to. I’m also pretty much self-taught because I was determined to do something new,” Glickman said.
