Senior forward Michael Hornstein led the Lions with 15 points in Friday’s 73-36 home opener win against Weston.
“I thought we played very well,” senior captain Geoffrey Gray said. “We were patient against their 2-3 zone and found the open spots in order to get high percentage spots.”
Hornstein dominated the opposing block, racking up offensive rebounds, in addition to scoring seven points in the second quarter.
Senior guard Jack Groper (13 points) hit a buzzer-beater three-pointer, one of three on the night, to extend the Lions’ lead 40-17 at the end of the first half.
Senior rookie Andrew Goldstein and sophomore rookie Oskar Coulter stepped up off of the bench, scoring seven points and nine points, respectively.
South went on to win 73-36 and improve to 1-0 on the season.
The Lions’ face Wayland at home on Tuesday at 5:45 p.m.
“We feel confident about tomorrow’s game considering we will be facing a similar defense,” Gray said. “We’re going to play three of the top 10 ranked teams in the state within the next month and it’ll be a great test to see where we’re at; we will be prepared.”
