On January 11, 2022, actress Megan Fox and artist Machine Gun Kelly announced their engagement on Instagram. Since then, many have pointed out the odd intricacies of their relationship, including their spiritual beliefs in astrology and gothic social media aesthetics.
It all started when the two first met on the set of Midnight in the Switchgrass in March of 2020. They were then spotted hanging out frequently, and, in May of 2020, Megan Fox appeared in Machine Gun Kelly’s music video for his song “Bloody Valentine.” Later that month, the couple confirmed their relationship, shortly after Fox’s ex-husband Brian Austin Green announced that their marriage had ended.
Since then, the two have been spotted at numerous red carpet events, always posing with one another. On October 21, 2021, Megan Fox posted a photo of the two in black and white, but the eerie caption that accompanied the picture was what drew viewers’ attention. The caption of the post refers to the couple as “two outcasts and star crossed lovers caught in the throes of a torrid, solar flare of a romance.”
Machine Gun Kelly’s social media presence is just as mysterious. One of his Instagram posts from August 12, 2021 features a clip from the music video for his song “papercuts.” Characterized by black lipstick, long black hair, and a multitude of facial piercings, the video explores a gothic-rock aesthetic.
More recently, the two used Instagram to announce their engagement. “Love is pain!” appears to be the motto of Megan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly’s engagement, as the artist reported to Vogue shortly after the announcement.
Megan Fox’s engagement ring is a two-stone ring, with a tear-shaped emerald and diamond connected by two bands. According to Kelly, the Colombian emerald was, “just carved into the teardrop, straight out of the mine.”
The engagement ring Megan Fox wears is actually two rings, which are held together by a magnet and can theoretically be taken off. The ring is designed in such a way that the bands are thorns so, if Fox attempted to take it off, she would be hurt—hence, “Love is Pain.”
Since the engagement, the couple has continued to post eerie and enticing statements about their marriage, and fans expect more to come as the celebrities move forward with their relationship.
