As South welcomes Caitlin Studdard into the science department, Studdard continues to see the benefits of South’s academically focused nature.

After completing a year of student teaching in Boston Public Schools, Studdard transitioned to and taught at Waltham High School for two years, and is now beginning her fourth year of teaching at South.

Studdard was introduced to South by Goldrick House Dean Marc Banks, who interviewed her last spring. Studdard immediately felt a connection to the school, especially the passion she now sees in both students and faculty.

“ Everyone seems to have some sort of passion, whether academic, athletic, or extracurricular, that ties them to the school and makes them want to be there. This happiness carries over into extreme politeness. I have been pleasantly surprised to be greeted and thanked at the beginning and end of every class,” said Studdard.

Studdard’s glowing review of South’s atmosphere can be disputed by some students as South’s prioritization of academically rigorous courses often results in a competitive spirit; however, Studdard sees the positive consequences in this intense environment.

“This is the happiest I have ever been teaching…. The students are excellent, my colleagues are amazing, and it is just such a positive, academic-focused atmosphere. I feel so blessed to be here,” said Studdard.
