There is a select group of people that can say they have represented their country in a game or match. However, senior Kim-An Quinn is part of this exclusive group.
The senior captain of the softball team played for New Zealand in the 2015 World Jr. Championships and is now poised to have another monster season on the mound for South.
Denebola had the chance to sit down with South’s star pitcher as she prepares to lead South to another deep playoff run.
When and why did you start playing softball?
“So I started when I was about 5. I guess I just started playing because my parents just wanted me to do something in the spring. And I ended up really liking it and my friends played so just being around a good group of people really helped me stay with the sport.”
What are some different or special ways you train?
“Throughout the offseason, I’ll have pitching lessons, going to the batting cages so just like really getting my work in during the winter and the fall.”
Do you have any superstitions or routines?
“I mean not really. I guess I wear like the same headband every game but I’m not like super superstitious.”
What did it feel like to represent New Zealand at the World Championships this past summer?
“It was a really great experience. It was really great to see everyone from different countries playing the same sport. And it was really fun to just meet new people and it was amazing.”
What do you plan to do in the future with softball?
“I’ll probably keep playing for New Zealand and then maybe join a club [team] in college or something.”
Any bold predictions for the softball team this year?
“We’re going to do really well and everyone should watch!”
