Spring Preview: Boys’ Track and Field

By Tara Lanahan

Coach: Ted Norton
Captains: Allen Shiu, Joe Hickey, Jung Park, Marini Lopci

The track and field team is preparing for another successful season this spring.

The captains believe that victory is within their grasp, and they have high goals for their program. “I’m hoping the team will become undefeated DCL champs,” senior captain Joe Hickey said.

The team was only five points off from the DCL championship title for the indoor season this winter, and team members feel that achieving that goal in the spring is possible.

“This is going to be the strongest team we’ve had since I’ve been at South,” Hickey said.

The captains agree that this year’s squad has a huge amount of talent. The team hopes that they can use this depth to achieve success in as many areas as possible.

“I think this year’s team will be different in a way that many people will step up to do more than one event, which means our team has a chance to earn points in every track and field event,” senior captain Jung Park said.

The team is working to go far in the playoffs, and it will rely on its veteran runners to lead them through the season.

“We have many strong returning athletes who will score us many points in the meets to come,” captain Allen Shiu said. “Winning DCL’s is a very feasible goal.”

The track and field team begins its season April 3 with an away meet against Lincoln Sudbury.
