Despite the absence of professional hockey in the U.S. this year, the Newton South girls’ hockey team is preparing for strong showing in the 2012-2013 season. The Lady Lions have a dominant upper-class core led by senior captains Karina Alfisher, Kayla Kee, and Maddy Donlan.
“I am really looking forward to having all the girls bond this year,” Kee said. “But we have a lot of new players, so we are still figuring it all out.”
The team has more players this year than the captains can remember.
“We have a ton of numbers,” Alfisher said. “The big bench should really help us out.”
The team’s first game is on December 12th against divisional rival Acton-Boxborough. “We have to work on our offensive plays and transitioning into the zone,” Alfisher said.
