As the seniors prepare to leave South and embark on their next challenge, the long-held tradition of bestowing a gift upon the school continues. This year, the class of 2024 has chosen to create 4 banners (one for each house) to be displayed in each class office and at important school events.
This idea came from a past “pep rally” at South held to foster school spirit. The choice was made at this rally to organize students by house rather than grade to create a better sense of house unity throughout all of the grades at South. At this rally, the art students of South graciously created banners for each house and displayed them at the event. The class officers of 2024 were inspired by this and saw the positive effect that it had on building connections. And so, these permanent banners were created.
“We hope that both seeing them in the school and having them to get involved with different school events will sort of change the structure of the Newton South Community a little bit to foster more connection between grades,” says Raina Bornstein, vice president of the Class of 2024. By celebrating the identity and community within each house at South, these banners will help to bring the people within each house closer than ever.
We can’t wait to see these banners at South next year and thank the Class of 2024 for their incredible contributions to South over the past four years.
