On April 7th sophomore Oliver Ciric won Student Choice Award at the MetroWest Student Film Festival. The festival has four categories; best animated short, best documentary short, best live action short, and student choice award. Ciric won the Student Choice award, which is essentially the general best film of the festival.

Ciric directed his film called Seppuku. It covers the drastic measures that a student takes in order to fit in with a certain friend group at his school. All of the actors and crew members in the film happen to be South students.

Ciric wrote his script with South sophomore Charlie Weinstein. Weinstein also produced the film, and sophomore Hedi Skali sound directed the film.

To produce ideas for his film, Ciric started by trying to focus on a specific topic that would relate to the greater society, in order to have a true impact on the viewers. He really wanted to influence the audience.

“I figured out what I want to say about society, a certain message or observation that I have made and then I [came] up with a visual, and [with that in mind] I write a script,” says Ciric.

Ciric is currently working with Weinstein and Skali to create more films. Later this year, there is an upcoming film directed by Weinstein. Search Pretentious Films on YouTube to find Seppuku and other films created by Ciric, Skali, and Weinstein.
