This Week in Arts- 11/14

This past Week:

Wednesday 11/9: This past Wednesday night, the Fall Festival took place, meaning all the Newton South band and jazz groups had their first concert of the year. Although the rest of Newton South’s arts groups, such as theater, orchestra, and chorus have already had their first one, the instrumental concert was much anticipated. All six of South’s jazz groups performed in the first half, and there were some amazing solos and improvisations. Furthermore, this was the first high school concert for many young, eager freshmen ready to make their mark in the music world. Although nerves were probably running high, it did not affect their spectacular performance at all. After a short intermission, the band groups, first wind ensemble and then symphonic band, took their turns performing. Both groups played beautifully and majestically, and closed the concert with a performance full of emotion and passion.

This Coming Week:

Thursday 11/17 through Saturday 11/19: This week, the fall arts program, the annual Frosh Play, will be taking place in the lab theater. Entitled Love-A-Palooza, this production is a series of 10 minute plays performed by this year’s freshman. Tickets are available on southstage.org as well as in the theater office.
