Tuesday 3/31: Newton South had its second Passing Time Festival of the year. During advisory, students and teachers alike were invited to share their musical and performing abilities with their peers. For twenty minutes in the midst of a normal Tuesday schedule, every hallway and common area was flooded with talent, from Children of the Candy Corn to Harambee and everything in between. Though a bit overwhelming at times, this tradition is an incredibly easy, fun way for students and faculty to showcase their hidden talents.

This Coming Week:
Wednesday 4/8: Newton South’s Vocal Ensemble, Chorale, and Madrigals will be performing their third concert of the year. This concert is sure to provide a wide variety of music, from romantic French hymns to Cole Porter hits. The Festival Singers, lovingly deemed “Festies”, will also be performing. This group, comprised of choral students as well as singing enthusiasts, is a semi-student-run organization that puts on charity performances several times a year. Rehearsals are held every Thursday J-block in the chorus room, for anyone looking to join.
Thursday 4/9: Despite the expected absence of some college-viewing seniors, the twelfth annual talent showcase of Tertulia will take place this Friday. Held in honor of former South student Maxine Chansky, this event gives students the chance to demonstrate their talents in a more formal setting. Though only a few classes every block were lucky enough to win the lottery to see the show live, a live stream will be offered on South’s PTSO website (link below). If you or a friend is interested in being featured in Denebola’s Tertulia Highlight Reel, have someone film your act (only footage taken on a phone held horizontally will be eligible) and email it to nshsdenebola@gmail.com.
