This Past Week:
Wednesday-Thursday, 9/9-9/10: South Stage (South’s theater company) and Newton South’s Speech and Debate Team both held informational meetings where they discussed their goals for the year and had upperclassmen perform pieces they’ve been working on. If you were unable to attend the meetings but are interested in participating in either, stop by the call board (located by the Chorus Room in the 9000s) or the Lab Theater (located behind the auditorium) for information on South Stage or email Lisa Honeyman (lisa.honeyman@gmail.com) for information about Speech.
Tuesday, 9/15: Frosh Play rehearsals began this Tuesday in the lab theater. The production will be directed by Jeff Knoedler, the head of South Stage, and will be on November 19-21. If you’re interested in doing tech for the show, stop by the Lab Theater and talk to Mr. Cyr.
This coming week:
Wednesday, 9/16: Newton South’s Film Club will be meeting for the first time in the Media Lab (right at the entrance to the 6000s) during J-Block. In addition, Newtones, Newton South’s student-run a cappella group, will be having an informational meeting in the Chorus Room (1941).
Thursday 9/17: Tess Primack, South alum and cast member of Broadway’s Fiddler on the Roof, and Ryan Vona, North alum and cast member of Broadway’s Once, will be in the Seasholes Auditorium during J block to talk about their careers as professional actors.
Friday-Saturday, 9/18-9/19: The Newton Theatre Company in conjunction with Theatre Ink (Newton North’s teaching and working theater company) is putting on a production of Junie B. Jones and the Yucky Blucky Fruitcake. Junie B. is a boisterous little girl who unintentionally gets herself into trouble when she attends her school’s carnival night. The show is at North’s Little Theater at 7 PM on Friday and 2 PM on Saturday. Tickets are available for $5. The show is great for small children and the director recommends coming early for a mini carnival complete with jugglers, face painting, and ukulele playing. Tickets are available at http://www.theatreink.net/.
