Friday 10/23 – Hurricane Patricia Makes Landfall on the West Coast of Mexico

Hurricane Patricia, the largest storm ever recorded, made landfall on Mexico’s Pacific Coast last Friday. The Category 5 storm produced winds of more than 165 mph, according to the National Hurricane Center. While the Hurricane quickly gained power as it swept northeast across the Pacific Ocean, it quickly deteriorated once it reached Mexico’s dry, rugged terrain. Fortunately, the hurricane avoided Mexico’s most populated cities; however, it did cause flooding and mudslides in some areas of the country, and dumped nearly a foot of rainfall on Texas. The remaining weakened storm system is expected to approach the Great Lakes region this week.
