This Coming Week:

Tuesday-Thursday 3/22-24- Sophomore MCAS

Throughout this next week, sophomores at Newton South will be taking the Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System, MCAS, test for the English Language Arts Reading Comprehension, ELA, and the Long Composition.

Students will be tested on their analysis of text and ability to write and organize a multiple paragraph essay.

All other students will follow a late state schedule.

Sunday 3/13- Ankara Bombings

Recently, a series of terrorist attacks in Turkey have launched the country into a state of violence and unrest.

The most recent attack occurred in the Turkish capital of Ankara on Sunday when an explosive-filled car detonated in the middle of a town square. This was just 3 weeks after a bombing of a military convoy in Ankara killed 28 people.

After the most recent attack, at least 34 people have died and more than 125 are injured. On Thursday, a militant Kurdish group claimed responsibility.

Tuesday 3/15- Presidential Primaries

Voters in Florida, Illinois, Michigan, North Carolina, and Ohio went to the polls to vote for their candidate in the Democratic and Republican Primaries.

In the Democratic race, Hillary Clinton swept all five states, adding to her total delegate count which now stands at 1,139 pledged delegates, while her opponent, Bernie Sanders has 825.

For the Republicans, Donald Trump won four out of the five states, however, in Missouri he beat senator, Ted Cruz, by only 0.2%. Former governor, John Kasich won his home state, Ohio, with 47% of the vote. Marco Rubio, on the other hand, came in second in his home state of Florida and has since suspended his campaign.

Trump still leads the republican field with 673 delegates. Cruz stands in second place with 410 delegates, while Kasich closes out the republican field with 143.

Thursday 3/18- Course Registrations Due for Students

By this past Thursday, all course requests and registrations for next year were required to be filled by students onto Skyward. Skyward is the new system South has implemented to make course registration for electives more efficient and paperless.
