What You Missed at the Second South Senate Press Conference

By Brian Yoffe and Winston Jiang

This year, some of Senate’s key accomplishments have included:

– Placing textbooks in 6167, which helped students get work done in an otherwise potentially unproductive environment.
– The first joint staff meeting with the faculty council, regarding No Homework Weekends, a new and looser electronics policy, and academic integrity.
– Passing the No Homework Weekends Act, which expressed the Senate’s and student views.
– Working to keep No Homework Weekends in place in future years.

Senate continues to work on:

– The use of technology in school, including the Library Laptops Act, which will open up the use of laptops in library classrooms for students who need to work during free blocks.
– The elimination of club fees, as a resolution on the $125 club fee is up for revision because the $11.4 million tax override passed last week.
– Closing loopholes and improving teacher compliance with No Homework Weekends.
– Increasing teachers’ use of Engrade.
– The Auditorium Lobby Compromise, a plan to resolve the issue of eating in auditorium lobby; since the Senate vote passed on February 14th, a bill will be sent to the administration for approval and revisions.
– A new Senate Constitution.
