We’re just over a third of the way through the NFL regular season and as with every year, there are a number of injuries to key players across the league. Tyreek Hill and DK Metcalf both left their week six games and returned shortly afterward. Their injuries seem to be minor, which is fortunate for their teams and fantasy managers alike, as the star receivers are important parts of their respective offenses.
Trevor Lawrence and Jimmy Garoppolo both left their games early, Lawrence with a knee injury and Garoppolo with a back injury. Despite not returning to his game Lawrence will be starting week seven. Unfortunately, things don’t look as good for Garoppolo.
On a more significant note, Justin Fields suffered a dislocated thumb in the third quarter and will take many weeks to recover. Ryan Tannehill also went down with an ankle injury and had to be carted off the field. Malik Willis could look to be the starter for the next few weeks and the offense could rely even more on Derrick Henry, who could see increased touches in Tannehill’s absence.
49ers’ running back and former fantasy leader, Christian McCaffery, left with an oblique injury against the Browns. The severity of the injury seems mild, but McCaffery has frequently been plagued with injuries throughout his career. Alongside McCaffery, receiver Deebo Samuel left with a shoulder injury, but X-rays did not reveal any major structural issues. He will unfortunately sit week seven out though.
The final notable injuries came at the running back position. Star player David Montgomery left with a rib injury and did not return to play, leaving many fans anxious. However, X-rays did not reveal any serious injury. Rams’ rushing leader, Kyren Williams, left the stadium with a boot after the game. He was diagnosed with a severe ankle sprain and placed on the injured reserve. Williams is first eligible to come back week 12, but it’s likely he’ll need an extended stay on the IR.
All in all, it was an exciting week in the football world, and of course, not without injury. As players continue to get hurt on the field, fantasy managers must stay diligent and keep their benches open.
