10 Moments Everyone Who is Slightly Too Young to Vote Will Understand

1) When you watch news coverage of the conventions and feel utterly helpless

Please just make it stop.

2) When you complain about being born just a few months too late to be eligible to register and someone pretends that those few months actually make a difference in your ability to appreciate the importance of voting

I am 17 years and 7 months old and I know what I want from my country, thank you very much.

3) When someone older than you says something ridiculous, insensitive, or outdated and you know that their opinion is the only one that will be heard

Maybe we should make sure everyone knows what it means to be transgender before we decide whether or not those people deserve rights… just maybe.

4) When you hear someone saying they’re not even going to bother voting

I don’t care how elitist the Founding Fathers were, you’re stepping into that voting booth if I have to drag you there myself.

5) Or worse, when you hear someone say they’re going to vote for a candidate as a joke

I’m seriously ten deep breaths away from punching you in the face.

6) When you read about how young people didn’t come out to vote in Britain and then Brexit happened

We could all stand to learn a thing or two here.

7) When your slightly older friend tells you to calm down because they’re voting the way you would have

You’re a beautiful soul but you can’t do this alone.

8) When you try to get involved in other ways but you still feel useless

I’m trying my best here!

9)  When a politician calls your generation “the future of America”

Great, thanks. In that case, I’ve got a few suggestions…

10) When you realize the whole country is probably doomed either way and we should all start filling out our Canadian immigration forms

Maybe we’ll try again in 2020.
