The Newton South Boys’ Volleyball team took a decisive victory over Concord Carlisle 3-0 today.

The first set started off with the Lions taking a 5-1 lead after losing a point due to their failure to serve the ball in time. South, however, struggled to maintain the lead with the score reaching 5-3 midway through the match.

With great serving from senior Ariel Fine, the boys were able to extend the lead to 13-3. They were able to finish off their opponent, with little to no opposition, by a score of 25-7 in the first set.

South opened up the second set keeping up the intensity shown in the first match, with an opening score of 7-0. The lead was mostly attributed to the stellar serving by junior Alon Stein. Only once South had taken a commanding lead was Concord Carlisle able to score their first point.

The boys were able to maintain this lead, thanks to strong play from the entire team and closed out the set with a score of 25-7.

In the third set, South showed no mercy, beginning with a lead of 8-1. The immediate lead was due to Concord Carlisle’s difficulty in returning serves, allowing South to run havoc.

However as the set progressed, Concord Carlisle was determined to turn the tables. Putting up a good fight, they were able to bring the score to a mere 10-7 with South still in the lead.

Concord Carlisle continued to keep themselves in the game, playing a back and forth for the remainder of the set with the score reaching 20-17. From here South was able to regain control and pull away with a convincing rest of the set and a winning score of 25-17.

Come see the Lions next week when they will face Arlington and Acton-Boxborough!
